The Chevening Scholarship is the UK Government’s international scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. It offers a fully funded one-year taught master’s degree at a UK university to outstanding emerging leaders from over 160 countries and territories β€” including Pakistan. The official Chevening scholarships page currently confirms that applications for the 2027-28 intake are open, so all dates and requirements below reflect that live call.

Scholarship Details

  • Fully funded one-year taught master’s degree at any eligible UK university β€” Chevening does not restrict the subject, but your three chosen courses must each meet Chevening’s course eligibility rules.
  • Covers university tuition fees, a monthly living stipend, return economy airfare to the UK, arrival and homeward departure allowances, the cost of one UK visa application, and a travel grant for Chevening networking events in the UK.
  • Chevening selects for leadership potential and post-study impact as much as academic record β€” applicants must show how the degree will create positive change in Pakistan.
  • There is no application fee and no third party is authorised to submit applications on behalf of candidates β€” anyone asking for payment is running a scam.

Eligibility for Pakistani Applicants

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country β€” Pakistan is eligible and is one of Chevening’s largest recipient countries worldwide.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK postgraduate course β€” usually the equivalent of a UK upper second-class (2:1) honours degree.
  • Have at least two years (2,800 hours) of work experience β€” paid, voluntary or a mix, including internships unless they were a mandatory part of your course.
  • Apply to three eligible UK master’s courses and hold at least one unconditional offer by 8 July 2027, 17:00 BST.
  • Commit to return to Pakistan for at least two years after the scholarship ends.
  • Not hold British citizenship (limited exceptions) and not have previously studied in the UK under a UK Government-funded scholarship.

Required Documents

  • Online application on chevening.org: personal details, education history and work experience (with the 2,800-hour minimum), three chosen UK master’s courses, and the names of two referees.
  • Four written essays: leadership and influence, networking, studying in the UK, and your career plan.
  • Academic documents (degree certificates and transcripts) and passport details; references and education documents are verified at the interview stage.
  • No English-language test is a condition of the Chevening application itself β€” the course requirements of your chosen universities decide whether you need IELTS or similar.

Important Dates – Deadline

  • Applications opened: 4 August 2026.
  • Application deadline: 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC (4:00 pm PKT) β€” the portal locks after this with no extensions.
  • Eligibility checks from October 2026; independent reading committee assessments mid-October 2026 to January 2027.
  • Interview shortlist announced mid-February 2027; interviews held March–April 2027 at British embassies and high commissions (in Pakistan, the British High Commission in Islamabad).
